My real fear is that I’ll request a copy of my MRI, and my orthopedist will know I’m getting a second opinion and hate me. I mean, why else would they not give it to me when I was here and asked for it? Of course they do know much, much more than I do, and I do freely admit that I’m an idiot, but what if my problem is caused more by an impingement than an instability? Or what if it’s both, but they only fix one, if that’s even possible? In shame and retribution for my own self-failure, I would be forced to kill myself, and that would be unfortunate, if only because I sure did eat a lot when I was around.

The bottom of my chin hurts kind of like someone uppercut me there. But no one uppercut me there. Or did they?

The more things change…

My ex-roommate called to say she had been at a party…where she met three guys named Dave. “Welcome to my world,” I said. Then we named the punching bag at the TKD school Dave, as a joke.

I’d rather be napping

Saturday was a happening night as Marianne and Anneliese took me out for a deliciously unhealthy dinner and a movie (“Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”). I gather this was to thank me for cat-sitting, or else just to fatten me up for cannibal consumption. You never can tell with those two.

The Oompa-loopahs were different from the old movie version in that they weren’t painted orange…Instead, they performed synchronized swimming, which was just as trippy. Incidentally, synchronized swimming automatically makes any movie better. (Imagine “Titanic” with synchronized swimming. See?)

Later, I had a dream that I worked in the K-mart shipping department. We were supposed to ship a red canvas bag to someone, but it was badly ripped, and we had no more inventory.

This was not a fabulously exciting dream.

Spent Sunday reading and languishing. Finished “Everything Is Illuminated.”

Went to the orthopedist this morning. Apparently I have six weeks to contemplate ankle surgery. Eep.

Cool runnings/nappings

It’s been cool enough this past week to turn off the a/c and sleep with the windows open to the sound of chirping crickets. It’s a sound I haven’t heard in years. These days I find it comforting rather than annoying.

It’s also cool enough to go jogging outdoors without fear of dying horribly, so I did, for the first time in many weeks. Dear god, my legs are sore. This may or may not have anything to do with the torturous low-middle-high kicks we were doing last night.

Oh, and Rob T. (the man responsible for Li and me signing up at our TKD school) stopped by the office to show off Noriko and his 6-month-old daughter, Emmy. I haven’t seen Rob in about 5 years, but he still looks the same – large and fuzzy. The child is adorable. I’m glad he did not name her the Japanese word for “pickled plum,” like he was threatening to. At least Noriko has some sense. She and Rob may both be kickass martial artists, but there’s no need to make an innocent child’s life harder than it needs to be.

Well, UDJ’s birthday party (a poetry-reading/retro-karaoke extravaganza – Linda’s idea, NOT MY FAULT) seemed to be a rousing success. Finally, my chance to do a dramatic reading from “Poems of Black Africa” — thanks, Lin!

Then there was much MIDI-madness!

I was also glad to finally meet both UDJ and Linda’s respective significant others. Decent fellows, both.

Hope UDJ had a happy B-day, what with the chance to karaoke “Barbie Girl” with her friends.

If my friends ever make me karaoke for MY birthday, I shall hit them with a stick.

Browsing for a new watch on the internet. Why are Movado watches so expensive? They…have no numbers.
