I Dream of Capsule Hotels

The hardest things to find in New York City are free, clean restrooms and places to sleep. Every time I enter a Barnes and Noble solely to use the ladies’ room, I feel guiltily compelled to buy something. Every time I enter a NYSC gym to use their restroom, I feel guiltily compelled to work out. But I guess I could get over it. And I’ve napped in parks, out of sight, under bushes, though it’s not exactly a relaxing experience.

I shower at the gym five to six days a week. For some inexplicable reason, even though I leave home at 7:53am and return, more often than not, around 11:30pm, there is always more competition for the bathroom at home than for a shower stall anywhere else. Conceivably, I could rent a locker at the gym. I inhabit office space during the working week. And it’s possible that the need for privacy could be satisfied, if not with space, with anonymity. If I could just find a place to sleep the nights, I might never actually need a home per se.
