Freudian or Not, This One Was Rather Enjoyable

Another dream: I wake up somewhere else; I’m lying in a lush clearing beneath a brilliant night sky. Something about the not quite hush, the quick damp respiration of the earth, makes me feel that it is later than midnight but not yet four — two or three in the morning, before the deep circadian quiet.

The constellations are huge and close, unfamiliar and startlingly lucid. Which is to say, they are clearly referential or inspirational; that one there is most certainly a horse, that one a deer. They hang above my head like glistening webs. The dark rustles around me heavy as fur.

Ultimate Ears headphones really do stay put while you run for an hour. This is due to the lengths of insulated bendy wire (a little more flexible than a thin paper clip) that fit around your ears. And you can get them in red. Brilliant!

In other news: new treadmills at the W. 73rd street branch of NYSC, at least on the basement level. I will also note that the branch on E. 86th St. has some of those newfangled treadclimbers that I have yet to find at any other location. The W. 62nd St. branch is not so lucky, as despite the installation of two new rowing machines, all the individual treadmill/bike/elliptical TVs have been out of order for at least the past month. And for some reason, the Chelsea branch at 16th and 8th always seems to provide free tampons, something that none of the others do.

I really earn that passport pass, don’t I?

I was updating my Netflix queue when I realized that “Grindhouse: Planet Terror” and “28 Weeks Later” are numbers 5 and 6 on my list, respectively.

Maybe I should rearrange things so they come by next Wednesday.

Oddly enough, the new Bruce Springsteen song, “Your Own Worst Enemy,” is not entirely unlike the They Might Be Giants song of the same name. Though of course they are different.

Dream Diary

I dreamed that I was in bed and woke up with a ghost kneeling on my chest, attempting to strangle me through a blue floral comforter. I didn’t try all that hard to fight it, as it wasn’t doing that great a job.

Since I only remember about one dream every ten years (previously, a white haired, traumatized and mute Arnold Schwarzenegger led me through an apocalyptic landscape; before that, a bunch of Eskimos fought with scythes on a moving roller coaster), you can see how this came as a somewhat of a disappointment.

As I was tucking into a bowl of Special K (sale item), I got to wondering: What exactly does the K stand for? Potassium? Kryptonite? Some sort of mathematical constant? And what’s so special about it? Is there “normal” and “abnormal” K? If so, is it sold at a discount?
