Now I’m Only Falling Apart

Saw the lunar eclipse last night. Nifty-looking thing.

And then I remembered that time in high school glee club when we sang “Total Eclipse of the Heart.” Distinctly un-nifty.

It turns out that my ill-conceived plan to give up caffeine would have been thwarted anyway, with the arrival to my workplace of an espresso-making machine.

Page-a-Day: Smokin’ Edition

Today’s origami: a box that has no opening, but that does have wings.

In my experience, when one reads manga or watches anime, one often just has to stroke one’s goatee at the perfect storm of puns and non sequiturs, shrug elaborately, and say “Why not?”

Still, those Japanese are just messing with me now.

I made mocha ice cream that wasn’t bad, but it could use more of both the coffee flavor and the chocolate flavor. Simple enough. I was thinking about making egg nog ice cream, but I don’t know if anyone in my family likes egg nog. One of my vegan friends is crazy about Silk brand soy nog (a vegan seasonal favorite), but I draw the line at homemade “tofutti.”

Acoustic Guitar, How Lovely You Are

Accidentally attended a performance/signing by Suzanne Vega in a Borders, so I got her latest CD, “Beauty and Crime,” autographed. Her daughter, Ruby Froom, sang backup. (Very unassuming and sweet.) They started out with “Small Blue Thing” (setting off a wave of nostalgia for the eponymous first album – the 80’s! audio cassettes! my first walkman!), and moved through “New York Is a Woman,” “Left of Center,” “Blood Makes Noise,” “Gypsy,” “In Liverpool,” “Blood Makes Noise,” “Pornographer’s Dream,” “Luka,” and “Tom’s Diner” (though not necessarily in that order).

So, it was a pretty good night, even though the guy standing in front of me smelled like pee.

Tuesday’s Origami-of-the-Day was the disturbingly titled (and shaped) “Hot Lips.” Even more disturbing: It was an action origami.

I actually gained 5-7 lbs. in the past week, and although I have been making ice cream, I haven’t been making that MUCH ice cream, and it has all been sugar free. So I’m thinking maybe that decaf coffee, though better for pregnant women, is not the thing for weight loss. No babies for me!
